New Gr1 Winner for Snake! |

Golden Snake - A Group 1 stallion in both hemispheres.  Already well proven in his ability to consistently upgrade his mares, the Bombora Downs resident enjoyed one of his biggest moments in Italy on Sunday - his outstanding daughter Quiza Quiza Quiza taking out one of that country's most prestigious mares races.The Gr.1 Premio Lydia Tesio over 2000m at Capannelle in Rome, a race which is regularly contested by some of the smartest of Europe's fillies and mares - this year attracting a strong field that included UK visitor Beatrice Aurore (Gr.3 winner in France and Listed winner at Goodwood), previous start German Gr.3 winner Kapitale and the favourite, German Oaks runner up (to Dancing Rain) Djumama. But it was to be Golden Snake's tough and classy daughter Quiza Quiza Quiza who would prevail, the five-year-old settling towards the rear before charging home out wide to pick up Beatrice Amore who had kicked clear at the 200m. Also a dual Listed winner and third in the Italian Oaks and the Gr.1 Presidente Della Republicca, Quiza Quiza Quiza is typical of the Golden Snake breed - sound and consistent. Quiza Quiza Quiza is not the first European star for Golden Snake whose son Cuba Candy was crowned 2006 Austrian Horse Of The Year. And of course he has done a fine job locally, the ill-fated Gr.1 Railway Stakes winner Gilded Venom his best to date. Tugela tests in foal to Desert King! |

  Great news for racing fans with Makybe Diva’s dam Tugela this week testing in foal to Desert King – a full sibling to the triple Melbourne Cup hero due late August next year. It is the first time the Riverman mare has re-visited Desert King since 1998 and of course that was a great success story, Makybe Diva winning 15 races – seven at Gr.1 level – and over $14.5 million in stakes. With Desert King no longer shuttling, he has been thriving at Bombora Downs – in as good shape as ever with his fertility strong – Tugela in foal at the first attempt.
“He is looking fantastic,” syndicate manager Julie Nairn enthused, “his coat is gleaming and he is really enjoying his work.” "It was wonderful to have Tugela visit Bombora Downs - she is a lovely mare and the mating went so well that I am not surprised she got into foal straight away. Desert King is doing an outstanding job as a broodmare sire already. He is only young for broodmare sire standards , but boy what a job he is doing . His first Group One winner as a Broodmare sire came in the form of an outstanding Group One Oakleigh Plate winner called "Eagle Falls ". A very talented son by Hussonet , Eagle Falls is out of Desert Kings young daughter called Desina. |
